Safety & Compliance

Safety and Compliance

Safety is at the core of Westline’s operating philosophy. We maintain a robust Safety Management System and enforce strict compliance with all maritime regulations to protect our crew, vessels, and the marine environment. Our dedicated QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) department develops and updates policies in line with the latest international standards, fostering a culture of safety on board every ship we manage.

Regulatory Compliance:

Westline ensures full compliance with the ISM Code (International Safety Management Code) and other global maritime conventions. This includes:

ISM Code Implementation: We have an audited Safety Management System in place that meets ISM Code requirements, ensuring systematic risk management and continuous improvement of safety onboard. Regular internal audits and shore-based support help vessels maintain ISM certification.
ISPS Code & Security: We comply with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code by conducting ship security assessments, training crew in security procedures, and maintaining updated Ship Security Plans. Our approach minimizes security risks such as piracy or terrorism.
MARPOL & Environmental Compliance: Westline strictly adheres to MARPOL regulations to prevent marine pollution. We implement measures for proper waste management, emission control (including IMO 2020 sulfur cap compliance), and ballast water treatment. Protecting the environment is a key priority in our operations.
SOLAS & Other Conventions: All safety equipment and procedures on our managed vessels meet SOLAS requirements (firefighting, life-saving appliances, navigation safety, etc.). We also ensure compliance with flag state laws, the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) for crew welfare, and any specific requirements of our clients or industry best practices.

Safety Culture: Beyond compliance, we strive to instill a proactive safety culture among crew members. Westline conducts regular safety drills, emergency response exercises, and onboard safety meetings to keep crews prepared and vigilant. Our shore team analyzes incident reports and near-misses to learn from them and implement preventive measures fleet-wide. We believe that every employee has a role in safety, and we empower crew to speak up about hazards or suggestions through open communication channels.

By choosing Westline, ship owners gain a partner that places safety and regulatory compliance above all. We keep your vessel’s operations in line with international laws, avoiding costly detentions or fines, and more importantly, safeguarding the lives of seafarers and the environment. Westline’s commitment to safety and compliance means peace of mind for owners and charterers, knowing your ships are managed to the highest ethical and safety standards.
